Four events live until September 7: what is worth your time
A 2048 clone, a consumable drop, a dice board and a paid costume rebate. Only one of them pays you for what you were already doing.
What it changes
- All four had already been announced in the previous patch note — they went live on 24/08. What follows is what each one actually is, and whether it is worth your time.
- Where's Foxball? (Aug 24 — Sep 7, claim until Sep 8): a 2048 clone. Merge equal tiles to build bigger ones. Keep your largest tile parked in one corner and feed it from a single row or column — never scatter the big numbers, because a board with the highest tile stranded in the middle deadlocks fast. The rewards are good enough that this is effectively mandatory.
- Battle Buffet (Aug 24 — Sep 7): monsters have a chance to drop and , both HP/SP recovery. Nothing dramatic, but worth stockpiling instead of burning — recovery consumables are far more useful in PvP than while you grind.
- Time to Roll — Dice Poring (Aug 24 — Sep 7, claim until Sep 10): a dice board. You earn the dice from event quests, so the quests are the event, not the board. Do them: the rewards justify it.
- Novawish Rebate (Aug 24 - Sep 21): every US$1 topped up grants 35 Novawish Sigils, and the sigils unlock Constellation appearances. Purely cosmetic - none of it touches your character. Tiers run 700 / 2,000 / 3,500 / 5,200 / 6,900 sigils, which at 35 per dollar means roughly US$20, US$57, US$100, US$149 and US$197 spent. Twenty dollars gets you in; taking the whole set costs about US$197.
Personal take, and I will not pretend otherwise: I think a puzzle minigame bolted into an MMO is awful. I did not install Ragnarok to play 2048. It breaks the loop the game is actually good at and replaces it with something a browser tab does better.
But it is their design, not an accident, and it has turned up often enough to be a pattern — expect more of these, and expect the rewards to keep being good enough that skipping them costs you. That is the part that stings: in practice the minigame is not optional, because the prize is real progression. Complaining about it and doing it anyway is, unfortunately, the correct play.
The Novawish costumes, for what it is worth, are bland. If you were going to top up regardless, the sigils come free on top. If you were not, this is not the set to start with.
