Companion Live is out: your Monster Research fills itself — and this is only the first step
A free Windows app that reads the game's own connection on your PC and fills your Monster Research from the kills you actually made, character by character. You type nothing. It is also the first step of something bigger: with live data, the site stops being a database and starts becoming a real companion.
What it changes
- Filling MR by hand is unbearable — and we know because we fill it too. Open the bestiary, read number by number, type it, mistype it, check it again. Companion Live exists because of that and nothing else: it reads your kills and writes them into the planner file. You type nothing.
- Per character. It recognises which character is logged in and keeps that character's file — switching accounts never mixes anyone's progress.
- Read-only. It reads the game's connection and nothing else: it never sends anything to the server, never opens the game process, never plays for you.
- Read the warning before you install it. The game's terms of service prohibit programs that read its communication with the server, and that is exactly how it works — your account may be suspended or banned. The
Companion Live page spells the risk out in full, and the program asks you to accept it before it captures anything. - Free, for Windows, and it runs alongside the game. The download, the antivirus scan for this exact file and its SHA-256 are all on the page.
This release is smaller and bigger than it looks, at the same time. Smaller because today it does exactly one thing: it fills your MR. Bigger because, for the first time, ROOC Companion has live data — what is happening in your game, right now, instead of a table we mined months ago.
It is hard to overstate how much that changes what can be built. Farm sessions measured for real — kills per hour, MR per hour, on which map. MVP respawn timers. A HUD over the game. Guild tools. None of that was possible for a site that can only read what you type into it. All of it becomes possible from here.
That is why we call it a first step. ROOC Companion was born as a database, and a database is useful, but it is passive: you go there, you look something up, you go back to the game. A companion is a different thing. It is being there while you play. Today is the day we left one and started walking towards the other.
